At some point in life, everyone experiences an episode of dizziness, unsteadiness or the sensation of spinning. Many people are feeling a bit ‘klutzy” and experiencing falls.

“I just tripped” or “I didn’t see the step” can be a sign of a serious problem that should be addressed.

With our population living longer and longer the problem with injury becoming so serious that NJ Governor Phil Murphy said, “It is estimated that ONE THIRD of State residents over the age of 65 and ONE HALF of seniors over the age of 80 will experience a fall each year. Falls are the leading cause of injury-related death.”

Dizziness and falls are a common complaint. People seeking help from their primary care physicians are often referred to a neurologist or an ENT. Specialists rule out neurological abnormalities or ear problems, but often they do not provide therapy or treatment.

The Balance and Dizziness Center is a multidisciplinary clinic that brings together key specialists in the diagnosis and treatment of vestibular disorders and the prevention of falls.

The patient experience begins with a consultation with a board certified Neurologist, followed by extensive diagnostic testing to establish the origin of symptoms. Depending on the specific findings, patients will then undergo tailored treatment plans, including modalities such as one-on-one balance therapy with a licensed physical therapist or vestibular rehabilitation via virtual reality therapy.

In just a few sessions, virtual reality therapy can drastically improve balance and diminish motion-related issues such as sea sickness and motion sickness. Virtual reality therapy can even minimize fears and phobias, such as the fear of driving on highways, fear of driving over bridges, fear of heights and claustrophobia.

Vestibular disorders affect individuals physically AND psychologically. Our therapists provide counseling and address feelings of anxiety and depression that may be related to vestibular symptoms.

In addition, our certified vestibular yoga and meditation trainer will facilitate reducing stress and minimizing symptoms of dizziness and vertigo.
